Leading engineering at Mortgage Automator

Sep 2019 to now

Trigger Mortgage Automator is a loan origination and servicing SaaS for private lenders in Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand. I joined as a senior engineer in 2019 and have been VP of Engineering since February 2024.

What I own

Engineering for a platform that private lenders run their loan book on: origination, servicing, fund management and the integrations around them.

As VP I run delivery, hiring and engineering process.

Due diligence and SOC 2

In 2024 I led the engineering side of technical due diligence for the majority recapitalization by BVP Forge. That meant answering for the architecture, security and delivery process, with evidence.

I also led SOC 2: deciding which controls fit how we actually work, collecting evidence and changing the development process where it fell short.

Building the team

I redesigned hiring with gamified technical screens that cut process bloat by 80%, and wrote the onboarding and training curriculum with the CTO.

A double code-review system with written guidelines kept quality steady and spread knowledge while the team grew to about 20. I built internal tools that gave leadership visibility into more than 90% of the team's resource use and delivery speed.

Still in the code

Rebuilt the core engine of the premium Fund module, at least 5x faster. Designed the third-party integration framework, with logging and usage billing, that four more high-traffic integrations later plugged into without changes.

Wrote the error-detection system for backend and frontend, a database query profiler that made the main page at least 30% faster, and a preview platform that runs several feature branches side by side.
